About Me

Thanks so much for checking out my blog!

I am a writer based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I studied comparative literature at the American University of Paris before graduating from Indiana University-Bloomington with a journalism degree. I wrote for newspapers for about 10 years before my kids were born.

I did some freelancing for magazines and the web when the kids were tiny, and now that they are in school full time, I’ve decided to tackle fiction. More specifically, mysteries for children ages 8 to 12.

I’m also working on a memoir about growing up as an Army brat.

My favorite books are memoirs (Mary Karr, Tobias Wolff, anything by standup comedians – they are my heroes); mysteries (I have a big, not-so-secret crush on Dennis Lehane); and interior design books with drool-worthy photos.

But some of my top-ten reads don’t fall into those categories – “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter” and “The Goldfinch” both fairly recently blew my mind.

I love to cook (and eat!) and play with our sweet, but sometimes naughty, dog. Her name is Frankie. Here is a photo of her after she finally, after many failed attempts, got ahold of my daughter Alice’s fox Beanie Boo.

When I’m not doing any of the above, my kids and I are actively trying to convince their dad that we need to adopt another dog.
